  • Your hotel may provide hairdryers, irons and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.

  • You will use the euro on this tour.
  • Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
  • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
  • You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
  • Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.

Beautiful Country, Excellent Tour

I will always remember the fantastic experiences I had on this trip. Greece has a beautiful climate and scenery, the people are friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious and healthy. It is astonishing to behold ancient treasures such as the Acropolis of Athens, the temples of Poseidon and Zeus, and the remains of the Oracle of Delphi and 2,000-year-old cities. This tour combined busier guided sightseeing days with ample open days and free time to create an experience that was both rich in activity and relaxed. Our tour director was excellent, being very knowledgeable, attentive and helpful; she managed the trip's details adeptly and took good care of us all! Recommendation to travellers: Consider going in May; the April weather was a little too cool on some of the islands. Note to GoAhead: Though I was thrilled to be on the legendary island of Crete, the time spent there was too short to enable sufficient sightseeing.

Hi Tracy, thank you for joining us for this trip of the Greek Islands. We are so glad that you were able to see so many sights, meet great people and eat delicious food. We appreciate your feedback about the balance of guided tours and free time. We design our itineraries so that travelers will be able to learn a lot but also have fun! We find that our travelers are very intellectually curious and appreciate this balance as it gives them a great deal of educational information but also allows them to explore the places that are most interesting to them personally. We appreciate your feedback regarding the island of Crete. Our operational teams are always looking for ways to improve our itineraries and your thoughts will be helpful to them when they reevaluate the structure of this tour. Thank you for sharing your kind words about your Tour Director. We are so glad that they were able to provide you with excellent service and provide you with helpful information. Our Tour Directors work very hard to help our travelers make the most of their time on tour and we are glad that your Tour Director took great care of your group. Thank you again for traveling with us, we hope to see you on tour again soon!

Spring Greek adventure

Hello, there were fortunately more pluses than minuses. Athens, Santorini and Mykonos were great. The hotels were nice, although a bit remote and only 1 had a shuttle creating challenges for older group members to make the most of towns. Crete was not a good choice, not beautiful and not much to see. Hotel I didnt like, rooms smelled and food was fair. My suggestion is to educate the director on how to create group cohesiveness. Also information up front that prepaid tours might not take place so one could research alternatives for unexpected free time.

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback, Georgann. We will share your thoughts on the hotels, transportation, tour director, and Crete with our operations team. We are glad that you enjoyed your time in Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos! The Greek islands have some truly beautiful landscapes to enjoy. Thank you so much for choosing Go Ahead and we hope to see on another tour in the future!

Almost Perfect

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful with referrals - what to avoid and what to do with free time if you didn't want to shop. The food was terrific and restaurants were able to accommodate special diets (vegetarian and lactose-free). The pace of the tour was moderately difficult because of all the hills, mountains and steps. Every site was up and down a hill or steps multiple times per day. Therefore, a one mile walk to and through felt like two miles. The hotels were very nice but, two of the four hotels had no elevators (Santorini Palace and Mykonos). After a day of going up and down steps, hills and mountains, the last thing I wanted to do was to go up and down steps to go to my room or to the pool. It was over 70 steps from my room to the pool at Santorini Palace! This issue with two of the four hotels is one reason why I did not give the tour five stars. The other reason was that we were in Santorini one day too long and could have spent one day more in Crete. I didn't get a chance to visit the birth cave of Zeus in Crete.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, Gwendolyn. The Greek islands are very hilly, and walking around the various sites our tours visit can indeed be tiring! Many countries overseas do not have the same accessibility laws that we have here in the United States, which is why hotel properties, especially in areas with more limited options, can sometimes lack an elevator or other accommodations we are used to as Americans. We are very glad you enjoyed your Tour Director as well as the food! Thank you so much for traveling with Go Ahead and we hope to welcome you on another tour in the future!

enjoyable

Greece was a lovely place to visit the people were friendly and the restaurant food was excellent. We selected this tour because it met our requirement that most hotel stays were 3 days. We prefer not to rush about to see another church or view more broken columns in another city. The hotels were comfortable and we did get rooms in the interior of the building. The hotel in Mykonos was out of the way but it was very quiet. The scheduled meals were the weak point in the trip. There was either no choice (except for person requiring meat free meals), or the meals offered shared dishes and given that many people had colds ( spring time tour) this was appreciated less than the lack of choice. The ferries were large and comfortable with the smallest boat holding 300 plus passengers. As the weather was calm the ride was smooth and very few people developed seasickness. It appears that the trip has been modified for 2018 and is very different from the one we went on.

Hi Glenn, thank you for traveling with us and sharing your feedback. We are glad that you had lovely interactions with the Greek people you met. We are glad that you were able to find an itinerary that suited your needs. Our tours do cover a lot of ground, so we understand how helpful it is to have a few nights in a row in the same place. We are also happy that you found your hotels to be comfortable. We thank you for your feedback regarding the group meals on your tour. Our teams work hard to find restaurants that our travelers will enjoy and that highlight local cuisine. When serving large groups, restaurants will sometimes offer a more limited menu or serve multiple dishes “Family Style” to allow for more choice. Our operational teams are always interested in feedback and will take your thoughts into account as they plan future tours. We take pride in making adjustments to our tours when it will improve the customer experience. We ask for written evaluations from every traveler and we also have a Quality Control team that closely monitors the feedback we receive. While we do not currently have any plans to adjust this itinerary for 2018, we always want to make sure that we are proactive in creating the best experience possible for our travelers. Thank you for joining us on this trip, we hope to see you on tour again soon!

The Beautiful Greek Islands

My husband and I took this tour and Egypt right before our 25th wedding anniversary. I told my children that Egypt was awe-inspiring while Greece was simply beautiful. I've seen a lot of water in my life, but the Aegean Sea was truly spectacular. We went to Mykonos, Santorini, and Crete. All of the coastal towns reminded me of Venice - just much cleaner. Lovely, winding, path-like streets, bordered by shops and restaurants and spectacular views around every corner. We rented a scooter in Mykonos and spent a few wonderful hours exploring nearby villages and a lighthouse. I've been told this should only be attempted during the off-season! The group dinners were quite nice and the food was always delicious. We had several excellent tour guides particularly at Akrotiri and Knossos. We took the last available tour in October and would always suggest traveling to popular destinations as close to the off-season as possible. The shops were still open but the crowds of people were minimal making the trip even that more enjoyable. This was a memorable trip spent with many enjoyable people.

Hi Jackie! We're glad that you enjoyed your time in beautiful Greece! We completely agree that the Aegean Sea is a spectacular sight, and of course, the little coastal towns are simply charming. How great that you rented a scooter in your free time! That's a very fun and convenient way to explore the islands, especially when the weather cooperates. We appreciate your feedback on your meals, as well as your off-season departure date. It's true that there are a number of benefits to booking off-season! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Jackie. We hope to welcome you on tour again!

Greek Islands

This was my first trip with Go Ahead Tours and my first trip to Greece. It was wonderful. I will say it was strenuous for a 73 year old woman but the value was exceptional. The accommodations were great, the ferry transportation to the islands on time and comfortable, the meals, tours, everything was so enjoyable. I fell in love with Greece and Greek food. The people are so friendly The group was small enough that we got to know each other. And the tour director did everything she could to keep us on time and organized. During the trip two people had an emergency and had to fly home. Go Ahead Tours got them home as quickly as possible, something that other tours don't always do. $ fro $ this trip couldn't be beat.

Hi Charlotte! We’re so glad you enjoyed your first trip to Greece! We’re also pleased that you feel the value of the tour is exceptional. We appreciate your feedback on the various components of the trip, such as the accommodations and the meals. We're glad you fell in love with Greece -- we love it, too! Thank you for your wonderful review, and we hope to welcome you on tour again.

Greece is Great

Greece is one of the few tourist destinations worth visiting twice...Acropolis and other pre-historic sites were fantastic....Tour had a lot of free time and several times we were left to find our own way back to the hotel.. Very annoying to wife and I...Guided means Guided--not do it yourself..Some people like lots of free time...I pay for ancient site advice--not shopping advice...Director was OK nothing special...very nice lady who kept talking to some favorites...

Dear Dennis, We're glad you enjoyed the incredible sites of Greece, including the Acropolis. We agree that there is much to see and do in this beautiful country! We regret that you would have liked more guided and structured time. Go Ahead strives to provide a customized tour experience, which is why we offer optionals. Optionals make it possible for more independent explorers to have their free time and for group explorers to stick together and experience a unique activity hand-selected by our Product Development team. Again, we regret that you would have liked additional guided time, but we thank you for sharing this feedback with us. Regarding your Tour Director, we regret to learn that she didn't quite meet your expectations. We will be sure to share that information internally. Thank you for your review, and we hope to welcome you on tour again.

#60inSantorini

Seeing and experiencing the Grecian Isles had been my dream. And really, what better way to celebrate a 60th birthday, right? This trip was all I had hoped for and more. I am so grateful I chose Go Ahead. The itineraries were true to promise, the hotels were lovely, and the itineraries included enough free time so that you actually felt you had experienced the island. The excursion tour directors were amazing. Extremely knowledgeable about the sites and very accommodating of questions and discussions. The cherry on top was our tour guide, Roberto. It would not have been the same without him. I will happily use GAT again. Already planning my next trip to Egypt. Kalemera!

Hi Katie! We’re so glad you finally fulfilled your dream of visiting the Greek islands – and what a fabulous way to celebrate your 60th birthday! We’re delighted that you felt the itinerary was thoughtfully designed and that the accommodations were beautiful. We’re also happy to learn that your Tour Director did a great job. Thank you for your review, and we look forward to welcoming you on tour in Egypt!

Majestic Greece

We visited most of the oldest remaining ruins on earth, it was an eye opening experience, of course Santorini was the best, Mykonos a very close second. The tour director Roberto was fantastic and so well organized. Will definitely use Go Ahead tours in the future.

Hi Daniel! We're thrilled to learn this was an eye-opening experience. You certainly chose an amazing part of the world to visit! Thank you for your feedback, and we can't wait to welcome you on tour again.

It's all Greek to Me

Accommodations--most room are small compared to Canadian standards, but the still amenities, such as in room safe, kettle, coffee for morning coffee. The itinerary was great, you had a daily half day tour with a English speaking tour guide and had the use of a "Whisper"--pocket taker so that you could hear the guide even if you were some twenty steps away. The optional tours provided that extra history and opportunity to see more of the country. Our Tour Director Roberto was superb! He was very passionate about his job and ensured that details were looked after. Thanks for the bracelet/keychain that you gave to each traveller. The Greek food was great. I certainly will recommend Go Ahead Tours to my friends and will be looking forward to taking another trip with your company.

Amazing Tour and Tour Director

OMG!!! This was my first tour and I am hooked. Alexandra, our tour director was more amazing and informative than anyone I have ever met. This was my first solo trip and I was pretty nervous; the small group size of 16 was perfect, we had great drivers, and the excursions were awesome. I would tell everyone to please go ahead and spend the money on the excursions, you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait for my next trip with Go Ahead....now if only I can take Alexandra with me. Thank you so much Go Ahead Tours!!! I will be a lifetime traveler because of this experience.

"Fantastikos"

This was by far the best tour we have taken with Go Ahead ( 6 tours at this point. To begin with there is so much to say about the trip that it would be reasonable to "highlight" the important aspects of the tour. From the beginning the Customer Service reps at Go Ahead were very professional, thorough, paid attention to detail in meeting our travel needs, concerns & questions (A great big THANK YOU to all !!). The itinerary & airline carrier from start to finish was primo. Lyn, our Tour Director was only top notch in every aspect of the tour, she was a "Jack of All Trades". She was on top of every situation, spent countless hours preplanning to ensure the minute details of the tour were perfect in every detail, she asked us our opinion regarding how we were doing & encouraged us to give her feedback...now that's a Tour Director. The best Director we have had thus far. Each and every tour guide that we had along the way was superb. They knew their stuff & they presented it well (from pointing out historical aspects of an archeological site to singing songs...WOW). I appreciated the delicate balance between touring on each island & allowing for free time to get out on your own (we do a lot of this on every tour) & explore areas of personal interest. The beauty of each individual island can only be described as beyond beautiful, unique & individual in every facet....priceless!. The hotels were quite nice (yes they were small by our standards but they more than met our needs, the hotel staff in each hotel were friendly, courteous, helpful & attentive to our needs). I highly appreciated the additional option that Lyn set up for walking on the lava flows & swimming in the sulfur hot springs of the caldera in Santorini. Of course it is important to point out that the sites we visited were awe inspiring everywhere we went. Additionally, the Greek & not so Greek people we met everywhere were so friendly & happy to help us that I can't say enough about the people of the region. The scheduled dinners were fine, the meals were of Greek cuisine with good portions provided by friendly wait staff. We stayed the additional 3 days since the Istanbul extension was cancelled & Lyn coordinated with the hotel & our taxi driver (Michael) to ensure we had the proper accommodations & had guaranteed transportation to the airport for our return. There is so much more to point out that was so positive about this trip but I think tentative travelers should find out the rest for themselves. They will not be disappointed. We will be looking forward to our next adventure with Go Ahead in 2017, the only question being where to go. Steve & Alex

Hi Steve & Alex! Thank you for your detailed review. We are so thrilled that this was the best tour you’ve taken with us – and you’ve taken many, so that’s really saying something! To be fair, it’s very hard to go wrong with the Greek Islands – it’s a truly magnificent part of the world! Thank you for your review, and we can’t wait to welcome you on your next tour.

Beautiful ruins with great guides.

Greece is beautiful and has an amazing history. The tour guides at the different ruins were so informed and professional, I really learned a lot.

A Really Nice Tour

Our group size was 12, which was super. Our Tour Director, Alexandra, took good care of each of us...she always made sure we had plans and suggested places or restaurants that we might like. It was so nice of her to share her country with us!! The hotels were all excellent, the rooms were nice and the pools were super. I have no complaints about any of them, but have to admit that Hotel Galaxy in Crete was really nice. The meals were good and we soon discovered that even the meals we had to get on our own included very generous portions and were very well priced. The ferry rides between the islands were an experience, but were enjoyable. The mix of free time and organized activities / optionals was really good and I enjoyed some quality time sitting by the pool. Athens is fine, but the islands were all beautiful. This is a great tour and I highly recommend it.

Hi Frank! We're happy to hear you enjoyed your Tour Director, as well as your group size. It's also wonderful to know that you found the accommodations and meals to be excellent. We appreciate your feedback on the itinerary in terms of the balance of free and structured time. Thank you for recommending this tour, and we look forward to welcoming you on your next one soon!

Steep Cliffs, Blue Seas, and Clear Skies

From start to finish, the Greek Islands tour never failed to amaze and delight us. The food was delicious, the landscapes were breathtaking, the locals were welcoming, and our local guides were knowledgeable and fun! Rob, our tour director, went above and beyond to make this trip excellent for each and every one of us. If there was something we wanted to see, he would make sure we got there. Rob delighted us with his impressive knowledge of Greek mythology and provided great restaurant recommendations to eat Greek cuisine. Athens and each of the three islands buzzed with energy and surrounded us in natural beauty. Whether you are interested in the historic sights, mountains and seas, or to learn about the culture, there is something for everyone.

Hi Jamie! The Greek Islands are certainly chock full of delight and amazement! Between the food, the natural landscapes, and the beautiful culture, this is a fantastic itinerary that provides a wonderful overview of this region. We agree that it provides something for everyone! We’re so glad to hear that your Tour Director enhanced your experience and really went out of his way for the group. Thank you for your review, and we hope to welcome you on tour again!

Awesome Experience

This tour exceeded my expectation. I love the Greek Islands. The beauty is breathtaking and worth a glass of wine while watching the Agean Sea. It was a great balance between guided tour and free time. Our tour guide director [Kostas] was outstanding! His recommendations for places to eat or things to do where perfect. Kostas has a great knack for detail. He knows what makes a difference in our experience. I would take another trip with him. The accommodations were excellent. The food was outstanding. If you take this trip, make sure you do the wine tasting side trip. The wine and food pairing was right on. It seemed to me a better experience than cruising the islands. We were able to enjoy each place at night and do more activities at each island. Great experience!

Hi Ruth! We love to hear that this tour exceeded your expectations. The Greek Islands are certainly an incredible destination, and we agree that a glass of wine by the Aegean Sea is a great idea. We’re glad you felt the itinerary was well-balanced, the accommodations were excellent, and the food was delicious. We appreciate your feedback regarding your Tour Director and will be sure to pass it along to his supervisor. Thank you for your review, and we hope to welcome you on tour again!

History, scenery, food, tour director

One of the best assets GoAhead has it its tour directors. Kostas charmed, informed, entertained, and took care our every need. He was the best! Although I knew only a little about Greek culture and history (aside from movies and Edith Hamilton's "Mythology") I came away with a new appreciation for the history and culture, both ancient and current, and learned of the tremendous influence Greece has had on the world. The visits to Delphi and Delos were especially interesting. The food! Who knew about tomato balls?? And the emphasis on fresh local food was wonderful. There are no blues like those of the Aegean Sea contrasting with the white of Santorini and Mykonos villages. Crete was a revelation!

Hi Diane! We agree that our Tour Directors are fantastic! We're so glad you came away from this tour with a greater understanding of various aspects of the Greek culture and history. We're also pleased to hear you enjoyed the fresh cuisine and the clear, blue hue of the Aegean Sea. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope to welcome you on tour again!
